How You Can Get Grounded
If this whole grounding business is new to you, here are a few easy steps you can take to help yourself start feeling less stressed out:
Connect to the Earth with your feet – Take your shoes and socks off and put your feet in the grass, rocks or sand. It feels really good to simply walk barefoot, and feel the Earth beneath your feet.
Be with nature – One of the best ways to become more grounded is, of course, the old fashion and natural way… Be in the great outdoors! Go to the beach and play in the water. Go hiking in the forest, or climb a mountain. Enjoy some gardening, or if you don’t like to garden just sit in the garden and read a book. Surround yourself with plants and trees and breathe in the outside air. Swim under a waterfall or take a shower in one. Spending most of your time inside your home, office or car is certainly not going to do you any great good. And when you do have to spend time indoors, open your windows and get some cross breeze going – this will help a lot.
Take a shower – Moving water is one of nature’s calming and healing remedies because it is charged with negative ions. Negative ions have been scientifically proven to create good juju and aid a person in grounding. The closest thing many of us get to moving water is our shower. And that’s not so bad. Moving water is moving water, and showers do a good job of producing negative ions in their own right.
Negative ion generating garden – Okay, so this may be a bigger project than you are looking for, but if you love to garden and you are handy around the house you can put together your own negative ion-generating garden. Along with planting lots and lots of green life, install a waterfall, river or fountain in your garden. The more the better! I have 6 fountains in my back yard and it is wonderful! The important factor here is the presence of running water to increase the number of negative ions in your environment.
Himalayan salt lamp – You have probably seen these neat lamps in a metaphysical store or in a friend’s house. Starting as low as $15, you can purchase a lamp made of Himalayan salt. These lamps are usually pink (the natural color of Himalayan salt), they typically sit on a wooden base, and they have a light bulb inside the hollowed out core of the rock. These lamps are not only beautiful, but they generate a bunch of good juju via negative ions. (Please visit my shop at www.ShamaMama.com if you are interested in purchasing one for yourself)
Himalayan salt bricks – I love these things! You may purchase Himalayan salt bricks on-line (check out ebay) that work wonders when it comes to grounding. These bricks are mined from the Himalayan Mountains, and they look just like a brick only it’s made of a beautiful pink salt. By placing your bare feet on the bricks, your body will begin to naturally ground. I purchased my set of bricks for $15 (free shipping) on ebay, so it is possible to get this product without spending a lot of money. The reason this salt is carved into the shape of bricks is that many people will build a healing or meditation room out of these bricks. Now, that would be nice!
Crystals – Crystals are truly very powerful tools, and they are another one of nature’s remedies. Understanding the many different kinds of crystals and their individual healing properties can seem like a daunting task. It often takes years of study to understand how crystals work, so I have put together a small list of what I feel are the best crystals to use for grounding.
- Fire Agate
- Bloodstone
- Galina
- Magnetite
- Smokey Quartz
- Tourmalinated Quartz
- Brown Tourmaline
- Unakite
- Selenite
Meditation – There are so many different ways to meditate that meditation deserves its own tab to itself. But in an effort to keep things simple, I will offer some suggestions for guided meditations that you may find helpful. Just know that meditation does not have to be difficult, or overly-involved. It can be as simple as stopping to consciously take 10 deep, slow breaths. You don’t need to go to yoga class or sit on a mountain top to deeply meditate. Check out my video blog where I talk about taking the mystery out of meditation. And if you are interested in learning more, or trying some guided meditations, check out these links:
