I WAS SELECTED – THREE TIMES!

I WAS SELECTED—THREE TIMES!!!

I have some very exciting news to share…

I submitted three different artwork proposals for the new North Lake Tahoe Utility Box Art Program—and they selected ALL THREE OF THEM!!!

Yes, all three!

This wonderful new public art program will transform utility boxes throughout Tahoe City and Kings Beach into vibrant works of art. The selected artwork will be professionally reproduced on durable vinyl and wrapped around utility boxes in highly visible locations.

That means my art will become part of the Tahoe landscape!

As someone whose family has called Tahoe Vista home for generations, I cannot begin to explain how much this means to me. Lake Tahoe has inspired so much of my artwork—its clear blue water, forests, wildlife, mountain light, changing seasons, and beautiful sense of home. To know that my art will now be out in the community, bringing color and joy to residents and visitors, makes me so incredibly proud.

And here is another really fun part: I get paid!

As artists, we are often asked to donate our time, talents, and artwork. It feels wonderful to be part of a program that not only supports public art, but also values and compensates the artists who create it.

And guess what else? I don’t even have to paint the utility boxes myself! My original artwork will be enlarged, printed onto vinyl, and professionally installed as a wrap. How cool is that? I get to experience the joy of seeing my art displayed around Tahoe without spending days sitting on the side of the road with paintbrushes in my hand!

The program was created to beautify public spaces, celebrate the character and culture of North Lake Tahoe, support local and regional artists, and create memorable experiences throughout Tahoe City and Kings Beach. It is being organized by the North Tahoe Chamber, Tahoe City Downtown Association, and Kings Beach District, with funding support from the North Tahoe Community Alliance, Tahoe Fund, and local business sponsors.

I am so grateful to everyone who is helping make this program possible—and I am absolutely thrilled to be part of it.

Soon, three ordinary utility boxes will be wearing my art. They will become colorful little landmarks and permanent pieces of joy in a place I have loved for more than 60 years.

My heart is full. I am proud, grateful, excited—and still a little bit stunned.

I WAS SELECTED!!! ALL THREE TIMES!!!

I can’t wait to show you where they land!

Namaste —- Karen
